ADMISSIONS

Ikhala TVET College strives to achieve its vision to be the first choice in vocational education and training. This goal is envisaged in our operations in the Student Support Services section. We have a dedicated team that is ready to support our students pre-registration, during registration and post registration. Our team focuses on several areas in our aim to support the core business of the college through our bursary office, Senior Education Specialist: Special needs, career guidance practitioners, Student Counsellor and Student Liaison Officer.

The college is situated in areas that are mostly rural. The Department of Higher Education and Training has mandated colleges to allow all citizens access to further education and training in particular the youth. The college notes that many of the youth in our area of operation are from previously disadvantaged communities and some from indigent households.  The college thus has made efforts to support needy and deserving students through student financial assistance from NSFAS and bursaries from partners and/or stakeholders like SETAs. Furthermore the college offers a merit financial award to students with 80% and above achievement per subject for students that have not been funded by any of the abovementioned financial assistance mechanisms.

The college has a Senior Education Specialist for special needs that focuses specifically on issues of special needs students. The college provides assistive devices for effective learning for students with special needs, the college has also established a disability unit based in the Queenstown Campus. The student support section is working tirelessly to make sure that the college creates an environment that is comfortable and accommodating for students with special needs so as not to deny our citizens their basic right to education.

Ikhala TVET College also prides itself in having career guidance practitioners that support students in making a decision in regards to their career path. Our career guidance practitioners also provide personal, group counselling, trauma debriefing and the identification and provision of support to students with special needs. Other activities include educational and life skills campaigns.

We have a dedicated official for student counselling activities, HIV/AIDS campaigns and initiatives as well as other student oriented socio-economic programmes that are driven by this office.

Our student liason office coordinates various student extracurricular activities like sport, debate society, choir and SRC activities.

We invite all young people interested in joining our institution to do so knowing that student support services are at the centre of support for our core business.
